Final Portraits

Continuing the theme of my last set of photos, my final project is centered around women that I love. My goal was to pull a little bit of them out in each photo, capturing their hidden beautiful qualities. Thank you, Andrea, Lisa, Jess, and Alyssa! (My intent wasn't to have more of Lisa, but they just turned out.) Thoughts?

Exit Through the Giftshop

This documentary was exasperating. I greatly enjoyed watching the evolution of street art and seeing how Thierry's style developed from filming everyday life to filming almost exclusively street art. What flustered me as a viewer was the idea that he thought because he liked to film meant that he could be a street artist. The ambition is great and the idea that anyone can be an artist is to be applauded (because I think this is almost true), but the way this man went about it was premature and overbearing. It was hard to watch the way he went about creating Life is Beautiful. It astonished me when the show was a success because he was an actual mess.
The concept behind incorporating already existing art was interesting, however. The way the artists in the film used creative license to make their own art was a great use of talent and I feel it can be used for every kind of art.

Women Are...

For our third assignment, we were to find something that really interested us and make it our own. I focused on women and their inherent qualities. When I was taking the photos, I actually thought each represented something different (and they can, of course) but I also realized that I took the photos in such a manner that one concept would be represented in two different ways. The themes are: Women are delicate, strong, vulnerable, emotional/powerful. The last photo is really a snapshot, but I feel like it represents me best when I'm in a room of people I don't necessarily know, but I'm enjoying myself: alone but amused.

Reverse Engineer Ad Lighting

This assignment, we were to replicate a photo ad from a magazine. I chose the 2007 Gap Classics Redefined campaign. There were a lot to choose from, so it was fun trying to get the lighting right.
